Director Rituparno Ghosh is making a
film that would have the well-acclaimed Raima Sen playing the role of her own
grandmother, legendary actress Suchitra Sen.
After quitting cinema in her
prime, Suchitra was never seen in public again. But her life has fascinated
Rituparno for many years and the director will make a film that deals with the
subject indirectly.
Raima
is delighted about the film, “I’ve always been told I resemble her
(Suchitra). I’ve been with her in Kolkata for almost a month now. For the
past 11 days she was in hospital due to respiratory problem. But now she’s
recovered and will have a long life, touchwood.”
Talking of the legendary
actress, known for her powerful role in Aandhi, amongst others, Rituparno says,
“Which Bengali filmmaker is not fascinated by the aura of Suchitra Sen
even though nobody apart from her immediate family, has seen her since her last
film Pranoy Pasha in 1978.”
A source close to the
filmmaker adds, “This film would have enough incidents from her life to
make it a familiar experience for her fans.”
