Denied mobile phone, class VII boy commits suicide

AMBALA: A 12-year-old boy committed suicide after his parents failed to fulfill his wish of getting him a mobile handset at Nanyola village of the district on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Sanju, the only son of Nachhatar Singh, a farm labourer, died after consuming poison. His body was handed over to his parents after post-mortem examination.

Inquiries revealed that Sanju, a student of class VII, had demanded a cell phone from his parents a few days ago. In his statement to the police, Nachhatar said that since he was not in a financial position to buy a mobile handset for him, hence Sanju had not been talking to his family members.

"We were away at work when he consumed poison. We came to know about it only in the evening when we found him vomiting in the house. He was rushed to the civil hospital where he was declared brought dead," Nacchhatar said.

Confirming the incident, police said they have closed the file after an inquest report.
