Astrologer held for promising son to expectant mothers

YAMUNANAGAR: A team of district health department officials and police on Saturday booked a quack who posed to be an astrologer for allegedly selling medicines to expectant mothers while assuring birth of a male child here on Friday night.

Shyam Lal (popularly known as Pandit Shyam Lal) has been booked under various sections of PNDT Act. His two accomplices have also been interrogated by the police. He had been running his astrology-cum-medicine centre from Sharma Garden for years. Acting on a tip off that he was making money by luring women with the assurance that they would be blessed with a male child, the health authorities laid a trap and raided his premises.

Deputy civil surgeon Dr Hukam Chand said, "The astrologer was found cheating people by promising birth of male child. Apart from this, certain medicines were also recovered from the spot."
